Panikkar states \u2013<em> \u201cthe fullness of Man\u201d, \u201cthe real symbol of divinization\u201d<\/em>, the visible and public\u00a0<em>manifestation\u00a0<\/em>of the truth of Christ, which is not tied exclusively to Christianity:<\/p><blockquote><p align=\"justify\">\u201cChrist is the fullness of life, this Fullness, that has so many names, is called in the Christian tradition Jesus the Christ\u2026 .. It belongs to the Christian kairos of the third millennium\u2026 .. to go beyond Abrahamic monotheism without thereby questioning the legitimacy and validity of the monotheistic religions. This going beyond does not mean the negation of the divine, but rather opening to the great intuition of the Trinity (<em>The Fullness of Man<\/em>).<\/p><\/blockquote><p align=\"justify\"><em>Christophany,<\/em>\u00a0therefore, is more than\u00a0<em>Christology<\/em>. Besides attempting to elaborate a reflection on Christ and human beings with clear reference to the Trinity, Panikkar is conscious that Christology is commonly a Western product linked to a concrete culture and has acted solely from within this brand. Today\u2019s Christology \u201cis not catholic, that is, not universal\u201d, and only by opening itself to other cultures and religions can it truly be so. Further, Christology cannot be a part of <em>theology<\/em>\u00a0and of knowledge, a\u00a0<em>fragment<\/em>\u00a0of the all.<br \/>Christophany is the Christian reflection that the third millennium must elaborate.<br \/>&#8211; It does not claim to offer a universal paradigm, nor even necessarily a model to adopt, but rather simply to offer to all\u00a0humanity<em> a believable image of Christ.<\/em><br \/>&#8211; It is a<em>\u00a0Christian word\u00a0<\/em>yet opened to the universal problematic in a concrete and thereby limited way.<br \/>&#8211; The word is used in the sense of \u201c<em>phaneros<\/em> of the Christian scriptures\u201d, visible and public\u00a0manifestation\u00a0of a truth. Christ is the\u00a0direct manifestation\u00a0of God to human consciousness and represents an<em>\u00a0experience.<\/em><br \/>&#8211;\u00a0Christophany does not ignore nor claim to abolish the preceding Christology, but Christophany rather tries to situate itself in a continuity with Christology in order to deepen it.<br \/>&#8211; Christophany \u201csuggests that the encounter with Christ cannot be reduced to a mere doctrinal or intellectual approach\u201d; it strives to elaborate a reflection on Christ and the human being with clear reference to the Trinity: \u201cThe<em>\u00a0logos<\/em>\u00a0is also the\u00a0<em>Logos\u00a0<\/em>of God, but the Logos is not \u201call\u201d of the Trinity, and the Spirit, although it may be inseparable from the living Christ, is not subordinate to the Logos\u201d. The Christo-<em>phany<\/em>\u00a0does not take anything away from the Christo-<em>logy<\/em>, but shows itself opened to the reality of the Spirit.<br \/>&#8211; This contemplative, mystic attitude places Christophany in a more <em>receptive<\/em>\u00a0posture, in contrast to the more aggressive search on the part of reason.<br \/>&#8211; This notion of Christ must include both the figure from the\u00a0<em>historic\u00a0<\/em>past as well as the\u00a0<em>present reality<\/em>. Panikkar does not dispense with the historic Jesus, but Christ is not reduced to him (\u201cChrist does not belong only to the past\u201d). Christophany is a reflection opened to the Christian scriptures, but is in dialogue with the other religions; opened to dialogue with the past (even the pre-Christian) and with the present (even the non-Christian) and in particular the contemporary scientific mentality.<br \/>&#8211; Christophany, therefore, does not exclude a priori any epiphany of the sacred or the divine when searching for an integration\u00a0<em>of <\/em>the figure of Christ in a more spacious cosmovision<em>.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p align=\"justify\"><a href=\"https:\/\/raimon-panikkar.org\/?page_id=981\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>&lt;&lt; back<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CHRISTOPHANY Christophany\u00a0is the manifestation of Christ to human consciousness; and includes an experience of Christ and a critical reflection of that experience\u201d (The Fullness of Man, New York \u2013 Delhi 2006).
