We see as much as we are able to see, but only <em>all\u00a0<\/em>that\u00a0<em>we<\/em>\u00a0are able to see, our\u00a0<em>totum<\/em>\u201d. The vision that I have of reality\u00a0<em>(totum)<\/em> is realized necessarily and legitimately at a given time, through my given cultural and religious window <em>(pars).<\/em> \u201cWe deliberately direct ourselves toward the <em>totum<\/em>, but until others make us aware of it we do not realize that by virtue of the <em>pars pro toto<\/em> effect we know the <em>totum<\/em> only <em>in parte<\/em> and <em>per partem<\/em>. We see everything through, and at the same time reflected in, our own window.&#8221; (<em>La experiencia filos\u00f3fica de la India,<\/em>\u00a0Madrid 1997).<\/p><blockquote><p align=\"justify\">\u201cTrue ecumenism is not reduction to a common denominator. Authentic tolerance does not need to destroy unacceptable points of view. We do not need to dilute our own religious convictions in order to accept those of others.
