Raimon Panikkar, one of the pioneers of intercultural dialogue, developed the idea of \u201cdia-topical<\/em>\u00a0hermeneutic\u201d to explore the significance of \u201cplace\u201d (topos<\/em>) in understanding and interpreting religious and cultural traditions. For Panikkar, \u201cplace\u201d or \u201cspace\u201d plays a critical role in \u201cunderstanding\u201d and \u201cinterpretation\u201d by crossing different geographical boundaries, cultural contexts, and religious traditions of the world. According to Panikkar, \u201cdia-chronical<\/em> hermeneutic,\u201d i.e. interpretation across different periods<\/strong> of time through history within a socio-religious and cultural tradition, is commonly practiced, but we are now facing a new challenge to cross the cultural regions and geographical territories and relate different cultural \u201cplaces\u201d in order to engage in intercultural dialogue. In light of Raimon Panikkar\u2019s \u201cdia-topical<\/em>\u201d approach, the panel discussed the following topics:
1. The significance of \u201cplace\u201d in \u201cunderstanding\u201d and \u201cinterpretation\u201d of religious and cultural traditions.
2. Finding the importance of a \u201cdia<\/em>\u2013topical<\/em>\u201d approach in engaging in the interpretation of different religions, cultures and civilizations.
3. Discovering different cosmologies found in different cultures and religions and engaging in a cross-cultural dialogue and a \u201cdia-topical<\/em>\u201d interpretation. One\u2019s way of relating to \u201cspace\u201d shapes one\u2019s way of understanding the universe or the cosmos, beyond a mere scientific cosmology, what Panikkar calls \u201ckosmology.\u201d
4. The panel also explored a broader and larger implication of Panikkar\u2019s thoughts in relating to how the idea of \u201cspace\u201d shapes the concept of \u201ctime.\u201d<\/p>
